Indeed.
I was not all that far away too be honest although I'd already booked my ticket to see Avenue Q way before this fixture came about. Now if only I'd gone for the 8pm show then I could have been there.....
Picked up the full time score in the theatre so a very good day turned into an excellent one.

A fine day out and another great (and unexpected) win for the blues.
Whilst not a great game for the purist we more than matched our higher ranking hosts. Took us a little time to settle with our passing game not quite getting going early on. Hampton took the lead with a well worked goal and the finish was quality. Up to that we'd probably edged possession but been unable to break down Hampton in the final third.
The sending off swung the game in our favour. We were level almost immediately from a free kick. Marcus then pulled off an unbelievable save as we went in level at half time.
Second half we started to dominate possession. Hampton looked like they might be dangerous but we defended well as a team and Bully and Nunny seemed to be winning everything.
Walks struck Bury's second with an incredible strike from thirty yards/ miss hit cross, delete as appropriate. My first impression was he'd miss hit a cross as he seemed to be shaping for a cross to the far post. The more I think about it, the more I think it was a finely disguised shot. He did something similar against Hadleigh in pre season from forty yards and he's either incredibly lucky or incredibly talented. My money's currently on the latter.
We played out the rest of the game relatively comfortably. Baz was working his socks off as the lone stiker and doing everything you could want from a player in that position. There was still time for Marcus to make another save which under normal circumstances would have been talked about but after the one in the first half was overshadowed. We probably should have made it three on the balance of play and a fine Bury move ended with Smudger putting the ball just wide. In the end the boys deservedly progressed into the next round with a performance which showed that they are prepared to out work any team at this level.
Hampton was an ok(ish) sort of ground with a very nice bar/ clubhouse. The locals seemed a pretty friendly bunch with no hint that any of them felt that throwing furniture was a good idea. The beer was expensive but it was upmarket London. The food was good but expensive. The programme at £2.00 looked quality but was low on substance. The tea at £1.50 for a cup was just extortionate so I didn't bother.

...... so a very good day turned into an excellent one.I couldn't put it better myself, Jason A friendly welcome, a drying pitch, stylish football from the lads and the score that we wanted. At half-time, Wilks must have told 'em to keep the ball down and to make the most of their considerable passing skills ..... and it worked. Bringing Gav on for the last 10 minutes to help maintain composure was a masterstroke. But, the real highlights of the day [ ;D ;D ;D] were being served tea by the delightful and charming Mrs Alan Devonshire and [are you ready for this, Saltcod?] shaking hands with their President, the legendary writer ...... Mr Alan Simpson .... the hand that held the pen that wrote Hancock's Half-hour and Steptoe and Son . I wonder if they realised that I was a god

re: Walks struck Bury's second with an incredible strike from thirty yards/ miss hit cross, delete as appropriate......
From my perspective there was no chance this was a miss hit cross. A sweeter stike will rarely been seen! but then their keeper didn't appear to see it either so I may be mistaken. That said I really couldn't get that worried the result was the same. I have to keep pinching myself this morning - to think of it still planning pre christmas travel plans taking the draw for a national competition into account - brilliant If it can't be a home game could the FA arrange something central southern England for the 13th.

Alan ref your last post - name dropping cuts no ice with me is this a symtom of elevation to god status ? However if it cuts ice with anyone with influence who reads this I also shook that hand!! - what a gentleman. But the same could be said of many others we met at the club.
